As part of a collaborative EP from West Coast rapper G.L.A.M. and producing duo Black Caviar, title track “SUPERSONIC” leans into the fringes of hip-hop unbound by genre conventions or boxed-in classifications. Emcee Nacolbie Jane makes the beat her own from the get-go, flowing over it in a way that might trip up even established rappers.
The bubblegum claps and bursts in the production give “SUPERSONIC” more personality than some of the most expertly crafted electronic-hip-hop hybrids. As Jane continues to flow, the track evolves, shifting into a Jersey club-inspired bounce fitting for Jane and her glitchy vocals. While the title might suggest “SUPERSONIC” aims to fire off at an incalculable amount of beats per minute, the relaxed yet rousing production lets G.L.A.M. and Black Caviar have the best of both worlds, showing just how the team-up brings the best out of all parties involved.
