Fittingly, Love Spells has astounded yet again with the new mystifying single, “Wish I Didn’t Love You,” out via Loveless/ADA.

To call 2025 a breakout year for Sir Taegen Harris, the singer-songwriter behind Love Spells, would be an understatement, as he’s hot off a new EP and is gaining new fans from his 10 features on Kevin Abstract’s latest album – and that’s without mentioning his sold-out LA show at the Moroccan Lounge on Aug. 20.

With “Wish I Didn’t Love You,” Harris proves there’s more stellar solo material in the canon, stirring up a doomed romance fueled by a dreamy atmosphere and swirling instrumentation.

“This song is about wanting to stop carrying someone with you – a love that you can’t seem to move on from,” said Harris. “It’s about wanting to finally move through the world without seeing traces of that person in everything you do.”

Combining elements including, but not limited to, lyrics akin to Mazzy Star and vocals evoking Cigarettes After Sex, “Wish I Didn’t Love You” is the angsty single you play while trying to move past a failed relationship.

However, what’s most impressive is how Harris balances the dark dream pop of contemporary bands and those who popularized the sound in the early ‘90s. In some respects, he serves as the missing link between the two eras, coming out on the other end with his own spin on the sound that could take him to places unbound by genre classifications.
