Coming off their recently released seventh studio album, Moments, out via Cutters Records / The Orchard, Cut Copy is getting romantic on the aptly titled “Belong To You” featuring Kate Bollinger.

The Australian electronic band is one of those enduring groups that continually find ways to keep their sound fresh with each passing record, a notable accomplishment when albums like In Ghost Colours and Bright Like Neon Love are under your belt.

With Bollinger on vocals and Graham Lee of The Triffids fame contributing his “signature pedal steel sound,” “Belong To You” stands as one of the few examples in Cut Copy’s discography where they worked with artists outside of their core group.

“‘Belong To You’ was one of the first tracks I wrote for our new album,” said lead singer Dan Whitford. “Cut Copy hasn’t worked with outside performers too many times in the past. But it was a real treat to work with two artists that come from such different places musically, but complimented each other perfectly on this song.”

Employing glitzy synths and a beat that’s near impossible to dance to, Cut Copy spins a tale about finding love after fixating on past relationship failures. Similar to past material, their inspirations, while evident in the electronic production, never feel like it’s treading on old ground; instead, updating tried and true sounds for the modern day.

The song’s shining moment is during the chorus, where the cathartic quality in Whitford and Bollinger’s vocals complements the fluttering instruments swirling into each other like perfect harmony. From there, it’s smooth sailing, eventually settling into a smooth hypnotism brought about by the band’s unabashed romanticism.
