Get to know New Orleans rapper and producer, La Reezy. With his jazz-inflected grooves and conscious lyrics, the young artist reminds us of 90s hip hop greats.
This past April, La Reezy released his latest full-length project, Welcome To La Reezyana Vol. 1, revealing his skills as a wordsmith and overall artist, followed by his latest EP LAREEZYANA SHAKEDOWN, and the collaborative album, Pardon Me, I’m Different with PJ Morton, along with a variety of singles and features.
Although La Reezy knows how to let loose and be playful on his songs, his lyrical content can be mature beyond his young age (which is a great thing), touching on systemic issues relevant today (“Have Mercy”).
He does so over a soulful yet straightforward production reminiscent of rappers from the ’90s and early ’00s who often sampled for their beats, while also flowing in a self-assured manner that shows how experienced he already is. And even when he’s taking inspiration from other eras of hip-hop, La Reezy always comes out on top, shining in a crowded pool of up-and-coming hip-hop artists.
The kid’s got charisma and some serious lyrical game.
Catch La Reezy open for Little Simz on tour. He will open for Simz in L.A. at the Hollywood Palladium on Nov. 18 and will also perform at Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival. Be sure to peep his set.
