With the official start of summer closer than ever, it’s only natural that the songs released around this time reflect the changing of the seasons. At the same time, what the three artists highlighted below offer is careful consideration for simplicity while drawing you in through their songs’ immersive production and vocals.
TwoLips “Overflow”
With her upcoming debut album, Die On Every Hill, just around the corner with a July 24 release date, TwoLips is keeping listeners on their toes with the newest single, “Overflow.” While no stranger to making 180 turns into other genres, the track separates itself from the get-go with a thumping beat that’s a cross between electronica and post-punk.
As synths rise from the more rock-driven production, TwoLips experiences a literal overflow, where the instruments melt around and into her vocals. And speaking of vocals, her voice operates within the same range as many songs that came before, showing her ability to keep up with any creative pivot.
Although it comes as no surprise, the fact that TwoLips is already showing the extent of her artistic reach before the final product drops should be enough proof to get excited for Die On Every Hill.

almost monday “skinny dip”
In what’s the last single to release before they officially announce their sophomore album, San Diego’s almost monday is soundtracking sunny days with the summer-ready “skinny dip.” True to their pop sensibilities, the likes of which come naturally for the trio judging by DIVE, “skinny dip” is that single chemically engineered to get stuck in your head.
Whether it’s utilizing simple alt-rock instrumentation or letting lead singer Dawson Daugherty come up with melodies that will run laps in your mind like a hamster on a wheel, the band has the confidence to know what makes a good tune land.
The “Oh, do you think about it sometimes?” moment during the chorus especially speaks to almost monday’s way of capturing lightning in a bottle with the sort of seamless, radio-friendly sound that’s often harder to replicate than experimental work. No matter how you look at it, the members know what they’re doing.

Love Spells “Keep It To Yourself”
We can’t get enough of Love Spells. The Houston, Texas-born singer and producer, who also splits time in Los Angeles, Sir Taegan Harris’ latest song, “Keep It To Yourself,” is absolutely delicious. It has all the hallmarks of a classic soul song, but built for the modern age with smoky guitar riffs and pulsing drums, and most importantly, Harris’ signature falsetto. So dreamy.
“This song is about realizing everybody doesn’t deserve access to what’s sacred between two people,” Harris says of the track. “Sometimes love and its problems sound better in private. Some things you just gotta keep to yourself.”
The song arrives with a cinematic Tanner Deutsch-directed video that features Harris dancing like it’s nobody’s business. The choreography alone is gas. It’s giving Prince and Michael Jackson, while the video has tones of Purple Rain and Say Anything (where John Cusack stands outside his crush’s window with a boombox), mixed with James Dean-bad-boy-with-a-heart-of-gold vibes.
Love Spells is preparing to release his debut album, LOVE IS THE LAW, on July 24 via RCA Records. The singer and producer will kick off his Love Is The Law World Tour on October 14 at the Constellation Room in Santa Ana and a Los Angeles gig at The Roxy on October 16.
