GrimyGoods’ Top 10 Albums for the First Half of 2009

Damn! Only half-way through the year and so many great musicians have put out some killer albums! It was far too hard just to keep it at five albums, so I had to bump it to 10 and even that was tough. I can’t wait to see what the latter half of 2009 has in store for us. But for now, here’s GrimyGoods’ Top 10 Albums of the first half of 2009. Also check out 2008’s top ten!

Yeah Yeah Yeahs “It’s Blitz!” (Interscope)

Sandy I always love coming to your site to find out about music I would never have found out about on my own. I have downloaded most of your suggestions into rotation on my ipod. Keep it up girl and your reviews are always detailed and spot on. xoxo

Are people capable of making an argument without resorting to insults like “is this a real music page” and using the word “retarded” – a word that illustrates that its user lacks common decency?

Musical taste is subjective. Everyone with an IQ over 40 knows this so save the insults and simply make suggestions on what you might have added instead.

No matter what you choose to go on your top ten you’ll always receive criticism to go along with praise. I write for a well known music mag and I’m glad to see the variety in your list. Most “fans” don’t understand that as a music writer you can’t be biassed to one genre. Great list, I’ve sent to your email a direct link of my list.

Thanks for the list — I’m always looking for new things to listen to.

I wish I had some input on new good stuff but I’m old and most new music frightens me.

Well, maybe not frightens but, it occasionally *does* makes me yell at them to get off of my lawn.

This list is retarded. What about:
    Mastadon “Crack The Skye”
    Thursday “Common Existence”
    Strung Out “Prototypes and Painkillers”
    Cursive “Mamma, I’m Swollen”
    Propagandhi “Supporting Caste”
    Silversun Pickups “Swoon”
    Nofx “Coaster”
    The Loved Ones “Distractions”

Eels and Yeah Yeah yeahs and the dude from Black Keys were ok. the rest is garbage. But thats just my opinion

Uh, unless you know something I don’t, King Tuff hasn’t released an album since 2008 (“Was Dead”) which I own. This is a “2009” list. The same goes for Nobunny. But thanks for your input, opinions good or bad are always welcome.

Tim must be a lame narrow minded hipster with a small wee wee. Why don’t u pick something out of the over played and over revived 60’s garage? A REAL music head hits all bases. Awesome list! I would have put The Horrors and Grizzly Bear too though!

  9. Tim

This should be worst albums of 09. The new Black Lips is there worst album ever, I can’t even listen to it. This should be a list of bands Vice thinks are cool. Is this a list of top 10 main stream albums? Give some love to the underground bands. Check out King Tuff, Nobunny. Come on Mos Def? WTF? Is this a real music page?
