No summer is complete until you’ve had some beach time. In Los Angeles, the Twilight Concerts at the Santa Monica Pier bring that summer breeze and salty air you crave and they serve it up with some amazing aural delicacies of live music, not to mention some killer beach sunsets! And did we mention it’s all FREE!
This past Thursday, we ventured out of our East side bubbles and headed West for Nick Waterhouse and the Boogaloo Assassins. The audience was welcomed on this warm summer evening by KCRW’s Jeremy Sole who introduced the first act, Boogaloo Assassins! This was their first official release celebration of their debut EP, Old Love Dies Hard. If you are into Fania All Stars, Joe Batan and such, you need to get these vibrant goods. We even got a glimpse of L.A. local music celebrity, Reggae Pops. He has been the L.A. underground’s favorite dancer for ages. If you ever see the man, give him a hug and cut-a-rug with him!
When the night fell it was time for local favorite, Nick Waterhouse. With his retro tunes rooted in soul and R&B with the doo-wop flavor of the golden 50’s and early 60’s, Nick Waterhouse had couples canoodling and the crowd dancing. In fact, every member of the Grimy Goods crew was dancing and swooning along to his sweet tunes. It was a fantastic summer show!
Don’t miss the Twilight Concert series tomorrow night! It’s a free show with Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue with the Dustbowl Revival! Click here for more information.
