Summer is almost over, nights are getting chilly and if you don’t have a cuddle buddy make sure to have a nice blanket and sweet tunes to keep you company. Last night at the Santa Monica Pier the cold breeze felt like nothing when thousands of people gathered to witness a legend in action. For the summer closer of the free Twilight Concerts series, the iconic ska and reggae musician, Jimmy Cliff put on the biggest Twilight Concert yet.
The evening was hosted by DJ Raul Campos bringing a multicultural Angelino flavor to the stage welcoming East L.A. opening band, the Delirians. The young lions of reggae and ska did a fabulous job and sang in both English and Spanish. They warmed up the crowd enough with their good vibes to recieve Mr. Jimmy Cliff — making you feel Jamaica in the house! Cliff’s annectdotes of the songs brought an extra dose of history to the show. “Wild World” got the crowd going, but what really got the fans feeling the love and spreading those good vibes was, “I Can See Clearly Now.” It was pure positive energy, gives me goosebumps to remember such a unifying musical experience — absolutely beautiful.
