So many bands, so little time. Unless you have a few clones or superhuman powers, you’re not going to be able to see all 300+ bands/artists performing at this year’s Echo Park Rising. And it’s a shame you can’t, because it’s the festival’s best lineup yet. To ensure you get your quality music fix, we’ve broken down Echo Park Rising by day and have selected five bands you must see each day of the festival. Below you will find our top five selections for the first day of Echo Park Rising this Friday, Aug. 15. Check back with us tomorrow for our selections for day two (Saturday)!
* Set times may change, so be sure to check the schedule day of the festival.
1. Dante Vs Zombies — 11:50 p.m. — The Echo
It’s been over a year since Dante Vs Zombies played an L.A. date. The last time we caught them live was at the LA Fort. Prepare yourself to dance and get hazy, this show is gonna be a blast.
2. Skygreen Leopards — 8:20 p.m. — The Echo
The California duo create a bleary-eyed aesthetic that is equal parts Laurel Canyon folk and lackadaisical indie pop. They are the perfect sound for a summer love.
3. Cherry Glazerr — 7:10 P.M.— TAIX Main Stage
We’ve been lovin’ these talented kids for quite some time now and it’s been amazing to see their growth. From high fashion Vougue and Saint Laurent, to the wild ways of Odd Future and Black Lips, everyone LOVES Cherry Glazerr — and rightfully so. These ladies and gent rip.
4. Woods — 8 p.m. — TAIX Main Stage
Delivering gorgeous songs torn apart by fuzztone jams and weird electronics, Woods are always an aural and visual pleasure to watch live. Dudes can stay mellow or shred at the switch of a button.
5. Tennis System — 8 p.m. — Origami Vinyl
Blending elements of nostalgic noise punk with shoegaze, Tennis System (aka Matty Taylor) will have you shuffling around the floor in the style of Ian Curtis’ dance-moves.
Although Echo Park Rising is FREE, we highly recommend you grab some VIP tickets that include some perks like easy access to the main venues, special bar, tote full of goodies and more. There’s a lot more great bands (and many our favorites) performing on Friday. Be sure to check out the full lineup for more musical action!
