Brazil’s legendary Caetano Veloso gives superb performance at Hollywood Bowl featuring Andrew Bird and Devendra Banhart

Trying our best to hold on to summer we headed to the Hollywood Bowl for a night of smooth sounds for the legendary Brazilian singer song-writer, Caetano Veloso. This icon went back to his roots performing mostly songs of his new album Abracaco (big hug) with touches of rock ‘n’ roll accompanied with a stellar cast of musicians singing in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Although the fans expected Veloso’s most popular songs typical from the “tropicalia” movement, his new proposal was fresh and alluring for even a bigger audience.  Nonetheless, Veloso enchanted the audience with known songs like “Baby” and “A La Luz de Tieta” providing that nostalgic taste that people expected.

Having a legend in the house was certainly powerful to complete a night filled with talent. Opening the evening, Venezuelan-American Devendra Banhart delivered sweet performance with playful and creative lyrics in his own whatever-goes style intriguing us for more of him. Following Banhart was Chicago native Andrew Bird. Bird and his band Hands of Glory shifted between bluegrass and folk with perfect performances. Bird’s multi-instrumental skills left us in major awe! If L.A. continues to bring us music like this the summertime feel will hardly be over.
