Queens of the Stone Age on Halloween?! It already sounded like a crazy show, before I even stepped foot into The Forum. Having never seen Queens of the Stone Age before, I had been dying to see them, and to say they lived up to my expectations would be the understatement of the year. Everyone with a pulse who attended the show on October 31st, would agree. The fact remains that Queens of the Stone Age doesn’t sound like a band. They’re too polished, too heavy, and frankly too bad ass to be lumped together with all the “other” rock bands out there. With their music pulsing through your blood and making your heart throb faster and faster, they are more like a roundhouse kick to the face. The supporting groups: The Kills, JD McPherson, and Nick Oliveri, were added treats to this special Halloween night.
The Kills are only two people, but they sound like they are at least three other members in the band. They easily got the audience’s blood levels higher just in time for Queens to go on. If The Kills didn’t get your blood pumping, the Suicide Girls performing strip teases, definitely did the job. Along with The Kills, the suave and smooth sounds of JD McPherson settled over the arena. Before JD, we were treated to a performance of the former Queens of the Stone Age bassist, Nick Oliveri and his band. Their music was heavy enough to start waking people out of their alcohol-induced exhaustion.
The night came to an end with confetti being shot into the crowd for quite a long time. People only then were reluctant to leave the amazing show they had just witnessed. I do not throw the word “epic” around lightly, but I have to admit, this Queens of the Stone Age show beyond epic. The fact a rainstorm started just as soon as people ran into their cars, just added to the fact that this had been probably the best Halloween of my life.
