Red Bull’s Sound Select #30DaysInLA has taken Los Angeles by storm. This past Sunday, at the Legendary Park Plaza Hotel, a hurricane of beats and soul enveloped the historic hotel for a spicy day of music built to make you groove. In attendance were a most stylish (and sexy) group of party people getting down to hot tropical tunes. Despite it being a chilly day in L.A. the music and moving bodies kept things scorching hot.

Kicking off the evening, the Subsuelo crew, DJs Canyon Cody and Ethos brought the heat with their booty-shaking global bass. Their thunderous beats were followed by Inland Empire locals Quita Penas and their tropical Afro Latin sounds.

When KCRW’s Jeremy Sole took the DJ platform, the audience was lit and it was summer time all over again.

Following Jeremy Sole’s blazing set was Rome Fortune. They were the only act that threw us off a bit since their hip hop sounds did not go with the music curated for the evening. But the beats and rhymes were slick and Rome Fortune had the party people pumped with energy. Judging by the dance floor, you would have thought it was a midnight set. But no, it was only 6 p.m.

It was New York’s Uproot Andy’s turn now, and he proclaimed it “Domingo es de Perreo!” which instantly evoked some epic grinding to this hedonistic tropical sounds. Finally at the perfect peak of the evening, Colombian (by way of Virginia) neo-chola singer and song writer, Kali Uchis took over the stage with her soulful sounds and enticing presence. The sultry songbird serenaded a lucky member of the audience. Fans were under the Uchis spell and going wild as they reached out towards her, grasping her unique energy. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day of hot music.
