Once again, The Music Center has surprised Los Angeles with “Sleepless,” an experience to submerge yourself in visuals, music and art. On this past weekend’s occasion, they brought the party to the famed Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown Los Angeles with a special hip hop edition.
The walls became screens for projection of visuals ranging from displays of spray cans, street art and more. Throughout the night, as you walked through the hallways, dance improvisations would brake down with classical music in the background taken over by b-boys honoring the past and present with stellar body movement.
In various rooms, djs would dive into timeless classic hip hop jams that took us well past midnight. They seriously had the place jumping. After a long walk for a treasure hunt, the deepest end of the parking lot served as a skating rink with DJs playing global hip hop influences from all over the planet, while large graffiti pieces where created on the spot. The event as a whole was a fantastic way to take over a classic space to include today’s cultural urban experience. We look forward to getting “sleepless” again.
