For three consecutive days across three different stages, the Bootleg Theater was the epicenter for a spectacular array of live music hosted by GIRLSCHOOL — a volunteer network of women defining space for women in music. The event was filled with educational panel discussions and empowering performances. The topics went from business to sound training, and the roles of women in the music industry; although the activities are oriented to empower women and girls, it was an all-inclusive environment.
This is the second year for the GIRLSCHOOL gathering (photos from last year) and the lineup was pretty strong. I was able to capture Chelsea Wolfe, Francisca Valenzuela, Deap Vally, Rituals of Mine, Boyfriend, Pearl Charles, The Wild Reeds, Caroline Smith, Kona, ExSage, and Kid Wave.
Every day, GIRLSCHOOL drew in an audience interested in the talented females taking over the stages. We can anticipate the 2018 sessions will be an even greater hit.
Proceeds for GIRLSCHOOL 2017 benefited the Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls LA, a 501c3 social justice organization that uses loud music to nurture self-esteem and self-expression in young girls.
