drill fest los angeles

Arriving in Los Angeles on March 30 comes WIRE’S DRILL Festival. Presented by the iconic genre defying WIRE, and Spaceland Presents — the three day event will take place March 30 – April 2 at The Echo & Echoplex and will feature some ace acts not to be missed: WIRE, Bob Mould (Solo Electric) Julia Holter (solo), Mikal Cronin + string & horn ensemble, Mild High Club Laetitia Sadier (solo), WAND, FITTED (Bob Lee, Graham Lewis, Matthew Simms, Mike Watt), Pink Flag Guitar Orchestra, and a lot more.

Grimy Goods will be co-presenting the third day of DRILL festival featuring Featuring Wire, Julia Holter, Mild High Club, Once and Future Band, and the Pinkflag Guitar Orchestra. Naturally, we’re giving away 3-days passes to the fest. You can enter our giveaway below, or purchase your tickets here.

Genre-defying evolution is the hallmark of post-punk legends WIRE’s career. Now, nearly forty years into its existence, Wire is breathing new life into small, curated festivals. Each is unique in format but all are built on artistic kinship across divergent musical styles, influences, and generations. That festival is DRILL.

DRILL has already left its mark in Seattle, Chicago, London and more major cities, and will conquer Los Angeles next. For a full list of DRILL tour stops and more information on DRILL Los Angeles, vist the DRILL website here.

“…The concept is simple, it’s an unpretentious city festival featuring artists from across all genres actively curated by Wire with a lot of input from local, informed media partners (in the case of London, The Quietus; in the case of Seattle, KEXP) The concerts take place in small venues with great sound systems. There are no big ticket acts playing for over inflated fees. Wire go for the best in upcoming local talent combined with friends who just want to be part of it.” ~ Colin Newman

Wire is touring in support of Silver/Lead the band’s 15th studio album. It arrives on the 40th anniversary of their debut performance with an official release date of March 31. Grab it here via Pink Flag.

I would adore winning the weekend passes to DRILL, as it is the perfect almost Kafkaesque Existential occurence within my past half decase of existence. Pink Flag is a perfect album, and i shown it to everyone ive met, as my mother was a huge Wire fan. Not to mention punk and postpunk in general, she named me after ian Curtis, my name being Curtiss Ian Jensen, she liked the double S spelling for a firstname. She also loved Bob Mould and Hüsker Dü, as does my father.

Shes passed away now, three years ago on her actual birthday, October 25th… but i think itd be fitting that she would follow me in spirit, scorpio women have a tendency to have as much power in death as in life. Perhaps even moreso now.

I sure would like to win a ticket, and like Meghan I only need one. Solo is the way to go for me.

Hey Grimy Goods, I want to win a pair of weekend passes to DRILL LA because I just moved to LA this weekend from Chicago and have a physical need to see live music ASAP. I honestly don’t even need the pair, just the one because I like going to shows alone. If I get the pair, then I might actually give love a try on Tinder or OkCupid and bring a rando.

I’d like a 3-day pass to DRILL Festival LA because so much music owes its debt to Wire and Bob Mould that it would be amazing to see them in addition to Julia Holter and Mikal Cronin.
