Lauren Ruth Ward recently shared a refreshing new single, ‘Hungry Barber’. A departure from their normal flow, the song reveals a brand new extent to the L.A. songbird.
Lauren Ruth Ward also announced a headlining West Coast tour, kicking off April 24 with a Los Angeles show date at the Natural History Museum.
Baltimore native turned LA transplant, Lauren has been rolling out her 70s folk-rock singles every few weeks for the past three months. Powerhouse anthem ‘Valhalla’ came first, followed by ‘Pullstring’, and now ‘Hungry Barber.’ A collaboration between Lauren and her partner in crime, Eduardo Rivers, ‘Hungry Barber’ is a stream of consciousness snapshot, first take production. The new sound unfolds in just 1 minute and 30 seconds: celestial ‘oo’s’ give way to an upbeat yet somber guitar that leads us down her thought process into a marching mantra chant.
“Tell me your theories I’m just waiting to believe them. Will your magic mouth be speaking?” – Hungry Barber, LRW
“The main percussive elements were done by tapping and flipping the pages of my song writing journal, shares Ward. “First pass, stream of conscience lyrics about the inner dialogue when chasing the night.”
When Lauren and Eddie produced this song, they were aiming for the anti-thesis of expected songwriting: make a 3-minute-ish song that exists within a single genre, or hire big names to credit on it.
A psychedelic rock queen, Lauren has always done things differently, never living by the book and as a result, her music walks freely. ’Hungry Barber’ is no exception to the intimacy she is willing to share
