LA Based art-grunge band Object As Subject are bringing their raw performances to the Satellite for a July residency. Led by violinist turned punk singer Paris Hurley, the powerful group stands as a response to the narrative that women exist without agency in a society that degrades female sexuality.
Destroying limitations and hypnotizing the masses, Object As Subject will play the second night of their residency this Monday, July 15th. Co-presented by Grimy Goods, the evening will feature: Pink Lotion, I Speak Machine, Bitch, and a DJ set by Allison Wolfe with backbar art installation by Camille Kolo + Talia Steinhardt.

Wearing lace and knee pads, this feminist collective commands any room, stirring up intoxicating energy encouraging both contemplation and release. Melodic chants filled with spell binding harmonies are punctuated by erotic drums and cathartic movements. Using tom drums, live instruments, and their voices, Object As Subject creates an unforgettable experience beyond the music.
The group took to instagram to share what this residency means to them:
“If you need a place to turn inward, face yourself, free yourself, save yourself, be wild, revel in your joy, feel your sorrow, swear out your fears, scream your anger, or simply (or not so simply) BE together, we would love to share this space + practice + body of work with you.”
Object As Subject began as Paris’ solo project. A classical violinist of 30 years, Paris was raised in Tucson on concertos, string quartets, and orchestral playing, debuting at Carnegie Hall at age 16. After moving to Seattle in 2003, she found her way into collaborations with composer Jherek Bischoff and the experimental dance theater collective, Degenerate Art Ensemble. In 2008, Paris joined Balkan punk-metal group Kultur Shock for an 8 year stint, performing over 300 shows in more than a hundred cities throughout Europe. A powerhouse artist, Paris contributed to the conversation of feminism within the Balkans, inspiring many in the region to take on their own research and identification with the movement. When Paris moved to Los Angeles in 2016 she began assembling OBJECT AS SUBJECT’s current lineup, intertwining her personal song-writing with the personality of each performer.
