Blood Cultures

Hidden behind a mask, anonymous bedroom-pop artist Blood Cultures has been carefully building a dedicated cult following since 2013. The anonymity has allowed for a blank-slate style of music for their listeners—removing any distraction by the artist themselves and placing the entirety of the listener’s focus on the music. In an age when being seen seems to be the mantra many live by, Blood Cultures has consistently refuted—as well as disproved—that notion, creating a prolific intimacy in the music they create.

Their latest single “No Favors,” the last before the release of their upcoming record Oh Uncertainty! A Universe Despairs, rushes with the kind of intricacy the artist is known for injecting into his tracks. A sonic adventure through swirling beats and dreamy vocals, “No Favors” pulses with the kind of deliriously bold, atmospherics that early 00s electronica was known for.

From the Blood Cultures’ Manifesto: “Despite not sharing ourselves in the traditional and physical sense, we instead exclusively share our raw emotional selves by exposing our most personal thoughts, moments, and feelings in the music. Anonymity allows us the freedom to be candid and void of restraint, repercussions, and fear. This music is the most personal thing I have ever done, so the relationship we have with our listeners through this channel is an extremely intimate one.”
