In conjunction with the announcement of a new LP, ‘4,’ musician Big Black Delta has just dropped a new single, “Lord Only Knows.” With heavy guitars that come barreling in at the start of the song, ominous vocals and a driving drum beat, the tune maintains the same technological punch as his previous singles, but with an added rock n’ roll tinge, it’s kicked up another notch.

Frontman Jonathan Bates fills the room with echoey, rich vocals and decadent hooks, all the while cranking out crunchy guitar riffs and heavy driving beats.

The contrast as the song goes from heavy metal to delicately tuned pop make “Lord Only Knows” a truly fun single.

“The first song written for ‘4’ was quite fitting given that lofty goal. Getting things off to a glorious start with heavyweight guitars and lush hooks,” says Bates. “It starts like Whitesnake and ends like Liberace.”

The music video for the song, an animated short, is equally as layered with cataclysmic scenes of meteors hitting the earth, dinosaurs and humans catching ablaze and fragmented memories all coming together in a wild depiction. Working with director, Adam Osgood, Bates was also able to add a few easter eggs in his video and play with the dynamics of a father-daughter relationship he’s explored in the past.

“This is the third music video I’ve created for Big Black Delta over a period of 6 years, so working on “Lord Only Knows” was an opportunity for me to revisit characters and themes from “Huggin & Kissin” and “Bitten by the Apple,” said Osgood.

Big Black Delta’s new album, ‘4’ drops July 10. For more on Big Black Delta, his newest release and music, visit his website or follow him on social media.
