Despite her recent single, “I’m Lost,” Elohim has never felt more on course. The songwriter is reliable for compelling indietronica, and she always delivers something different, from heart-wrenching ballads to haunting dance parties. Her latest track shows her vulnerability and optimism, layered over a groove that will draw you out of your seat. Listen to Elohim’s new song, “Good Day Bay Day,” below.
“To be honest, it seems like the good days have been too few and far between lately…but deep in my heart I know a good day is there running beside us in a parallel universe, and I wrote this song to help remind me that nothing is permanent and anything can happen.” – Elohim
The local artist has taken a page from Aaliyah’s—or more accurately Timbaland’s—book by incorporating cooing babies in the production for “Good Day Bad Day.” (Elohim used a similar production quirk in “I’m Lost”—accidental? I think not.) The rest of the song blossoms from the first cry, expanding into warm synth melodies and a polite drumline. The lyrics describe struggles and anguish, but only for the day. Elohim embraces each morning with the same expectation: that a good day is worth celebrating, but that a bad day won’t last forever.
