Moses Sumney and Little Dragon, a match made only in our most heavenly fever-dreams, have finally joined forces on a song. The result? A sublime, instrumental-led ballad title “The Other Lover” that captures the limitless breadth of both singer’s vocal abilities, as well as their heart-wrenching harmonies.
Soothing to the point of tears, the song’s instrumentation–a collection of bubbling bass and synth-backing, with a few stray swelling horns, that hums behind their piercing croons–is a bottomless well of ethereal sonics that is too easy to find yourself delightfully lost in.
An entire album of this warm heartache, tuned to the sound of their crestfallen sighs, and filled with soundscapes of the same to disappear into, would be a dream to say the least. But for now we must be content with the glowing love that radiates from “The Other Lover” until the two collide again.
“When we reached out to Moses we didn’t know what to expect,” Little Dragon said of the collaboration. “What we received was very stripped down, with his beautiful voice. We jammed along and sent it back. It bounced back from his end with added horns and sounded beautiful to our ears. We are very proud of this ❤️❤️❤️.”
“I’ve been listening to Little Dragon for a very long time; as a teen, their first album impressed upon me just how infinite modern soul music can be,” Sumney said. “When they asked me to collaborate I was so honored and surprised (“shook,” as the kids say), that it took me a while to come around. They worked with me, egoless, to craft a new vision for their song. I’m proud of what we came up with.”
