Los Angeles based singer DeathbyRomy has dropped her first single of 2021, “Day I Die,” a hair splitting industrial thrill seeker for a different kind of hopeless romantic. The new single is a fast-paced, metallic tinged rollercoaster that crashes and hisses against itself with wicked curves and dangerous speeds. For DeathbyRomy, it’s the perfect depiction of what love is to her, not something that makes you swoon, but a gripping compulsion.
“This song is about my relationship with life, death, and love,” notes DeathbyRomy singer Romy Flores. “‘Day I Die’ at its core is a love song. Love isn’t soft and mushy to me, it’s hard as fuck. Love is god. It’s vibrant and addicting. Love is what fuels me to do all I do.”
The accompanying music video, directed by visual artist, creative director and animator Pix3lface, takes us further down the rabbit hole of sweet desolation as scenes of a twisted house party is captured from various rooms and angles as the camera tracks Flores making her way through the party guests to find the person she can lay her intense feelings on.
Altogether, the new single and music video paint an otherworldly scene and depicts a complex vision of love where pain, pleasure and the perverse all intertwine. Indicative of DeathbyRomy’s unique and eclectic sound, the single is a brash and honest hypothesis of emotion.
DeathbyRomy will headlining two shows this fall including a stop in Los Angeles at the Roxy on Sept. 15.
