Cuco goes interdimensional with cosmic new video for "Under the Sun"

Cuco has shared the first look of his highly-anticipated sophomore album with the release of “Under the Sun,” a fusion of Latin psych-pop that hints at the singer/songwriter and teen idol’s sonic palette expansion. Between the song’s cosmic soundscape which jettisons you across a sea of glowing riffs, spacey atmospherics, and Cuco’s own ethereal cries. “Under the Sun” also follows the release of Cuco’s reimagining of the Bobby Capó classic Piel Canela,” and although Cuco has never shied away from Latin influences, this string of releases implies he is unafraid to lean into those sounds even more now.

The music video for the new song, directed by Carlos López Estrada and Jeff Desom, propels Cuco’s dreamy imaginings into a whole other dimension. What starts out as a leisurely drive against an orange sunset to the tune of the song’s lush melodic blooms eventually gives way to Cuco’s arrival at an interdimensional cantina. There, Cuco appears and offers up his closest exploration of cumbia with a blistering guitar solo over thrumming percussion and sublime horns.

Cuco will be playing The Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles on November 1. Visit Cuco’s website and Instagram to stay updated on new releases and tour announcements.
