It’s going to be a spectacular night of Americana blues and soul when Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats and Durand Jones & the Indications take the stage at The Hollywood Bowl on Sunday, Aug. 14 at part of the KCRW Festival. Kicking off the evening will be blues-rocker Celisse. Stay tuned to Grimy Goods’ Instagram for a ticket giveaway.
Rateliff and company are known for their rousingly explosive shows they put on — The Night Sweats matching the frontman’s sweltering energy beat-for-beat as they tumble through their gospel-folk-rock anthems. While Jones and his band offer up a neo-soul and retro R&B that fully envelops you in its swooning nostalgia.

Rateliff and The Night Sweats are still riding the highs of their recent album The Future, which features blistering blues pieces like “Survivor” and the piano-drifting ballad “Face Down In The Moment.” But you know they are going to reach deep into their discography to play some old fan favorites like “S.O.B.” and “Howling At Nothing,” two songs that’ll absolutely soar when performed at the Bowl. Anyone who’s seen Rateliff live can attest to the kind of passionate frenzy his concerts can turn into — making their performances breathlessly cathartic.
But Durand Jones & the Indications are no less impassioned. They also released an album last year, which arrived as the stunningly groovy Private Space. From the opening decadent funk lines of “Love Will Work It Out” to the thrilling disco hooks of “Sea of Love,” the entire album is a shimmering and frenetic celebration of the very music that inspires Jones and his stellar band.
But their two previous albums American Love Call and their self-titled debut are absolutely worth a dive into — which include everything from powerful proclamations of love on “True Love” to the vintage “Is It Any Wonder?” And if that wasn’t enough they even have a sublime cover of “Young Americans.”

Both Rateliff and The Night Sweats and Jones with the Indications are representative of the Americana pulse. And it’s worth noting there are few stages like the Hollywood Bowl that have both the size and grandeur to house both artists’ bands — which includes the swelling instrumentals and stratospheric vocals they’re known for. It’ll be a night to remember and you’ll be kicking yourself if you missed this star-crossed meeting of two powerhouse acts of blues and soul.
Both bands will be performing at The Hollywood Bowl on August 14. Visit Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats’ website, Twitter, and Instagram to stay updated on new releases and tour announcements. Keep up with Durand Jones & the Indications on their website, Twitter, and Instagram.
