I Can't Hear Cassandra

As far as introductions go, the release of I Can’t Hear Cassandra’s (ICHC) new single “I Need It” is a hurricane-sized synth-banger made all the more intoxicating by its amorous bass. Created alongside producer Zevastated and lent the ethereal harmonies of Primal Wounded, the new track from ICHC encapsulates her self-described sound as being the illegitimate love child of Giorgio Moroder and Madonna.

Already well known for her libido-driven sonics as the bass/synth phenom for 80s synthpop act Sacred Skin, ICHC is the creation of Filipina artist Vanessa Rae Robinson. With “I Need It,” she launches her potent dance electronica into hyperdrive, and with it all the combustible frustrations that start to explode inside her over unrequited love. And with the brunt of those frustrations being physical, the need for intimacy sweats it up on the track’s heady rumblings and ICHC’s ecstatic vocals.

“I Need It” arrives as a self-released track from Robinson, done so because she grew “fucking sick of waiting for the man.” Over the glittery spiral of synthesizers, she kicks up a maelstrom of impossibly sublime hooks that get only more riveting with the presence of Primal Wounded’s haunting howls. Bolstered by her love for Italo disco “I Need It” sees ICHC revealed as the otherworldly girl-synth beaming away insatiably danceable and sexually charged tracks for us mortals to revel in.
