Local Natives

Local Natives are back with a new single and accompanying music video for “Just Before The Morning,” as well as announcing two intimate nights at the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever on Tuesday, Nov. 15 and Wednesday, Nov. 16. It’s the third new song from the band since the release of “Desert Snow” and “Hourglass,” and comes just after their first hometown show at the Youtube Theater back in August.

Tickets are on sale now for the Masonic Lodge shows with more dates available. You can also still catch Jaws of Love at their Silverlake Lounge Residency presented by Grimy Goods every Wednesday in October.

On “Just Before The Morning,” the band once more attempts to transform a certain bent light and emotion unique to the southwest coast into one of their stirring aural wonderlands. Cascading harmonies and lush instrumentals — bright as a golden sunset — break against rotund percussion like waves on seacliffs.

The song is ultimately about the band finding itself once again in the studio working on new music. But they use that to contemplate life’s many universal cycles — such as the idea of starting over. As a result, “Just Before The Morning” slips in and out of this potent euphoria and tender melancholy. One that’s ever sustained by the heart-wrenching harmonies of Taylor Rice and Kelcey Ayer.

The music video for “Just Before The Morning” sees the band doing what they love best: performing outside and in full view of iconic SoCal vistas. This time around they stick mostly to the coast, playing around what looks like Santa Monica at various times of day, which of course leads to some absolutely gorgeous shots. Illuminated by brilliantly colored sunsets and the picturesque silhouettes of palms behind them the music video is proof that Local Natives never miss an opportunity to reveal their hometown as a definite muse.

“‘Just Before The Morning’ came from a burst of creativity after we finally reconnected in the studio,” the band explained. “The song explores the cyclical nature of life and the many ways in which we begin again.”
