Shygirl has dropped her new album Nymph and you’ll be able to see her at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on Friday, Mar. 24, 2023, along with more tour dates across the globe. On it, the South London artist offers up an eclectic glimpse into the intimate depths of her musical mind, saturating it all in the heady sensuality that’s characterized her soundscapes since the first single and music video.

But the album is as much introspection as it is an outpouring of vocal identity. And Shygirl — an almost oxymoron at this point — invites you in with gusto (if you can handle it). The album’s first two tracks — the simmering self-reflector “Woe” and shuddering call-and-response “Come For Me” — reveal Shygirl’s tendency for experimentation. Settling into cavernous electronica as easily as she does when she’s dropping fiery bars amidst concussive beat tracks devised by longtime producer Sega Bodega.

While tracks like “Shlut” and “Firefly” represent the fluctuations of style and genre that makeup Shygirl’s sonic palette. From galloping percussion rhythms to throwback R&B layers and instrumental mixups — the entirety of Nymph is built on the stunningly woven intricacies of her music.

There’s the raw rush of bittersweetness that fills the break-up ballad “Heaven” and its combustive counterpart “Missin u.” While the heavily Eurodance-inspired club bumper “Poison” and thrumming energies of “Wildfire” serve as a reminder that, whatever the tempo, Shygirl is always ever potently in control.
