Lo Village has returned with the final preview of their forthcoming third album with the arrival of the soul-soothing single “My Bag.” The project of siblings Kane and Ama Tabiri alongside close friend Charles Tyler, the trio coalesces around revitalizing neo-soul and incisive hip-hop. They’ve already shared two previous tracks from the new record: first came the ebullient and uplifting grooves “On Your Way,” and then it was a luminous descent into depression and introspection on “Fallin.”

On “My Bag,” Lo Village focuses its sharp lyricism on tearing down the belief that the dogged pursuit of money can offer meaningful fulfillment. Countering all the familiar symbols and desires of material wealth with a mindset that instead values personal growth and tending to one’s own happiness and relationships. Be that in the form of therapy or surrounding yourself with people who truly care about you the track both energizes and warms the spirit with its images of contentment absent a soul-sucking monetary rat race.

“Poppin’ tags on a bag / that’s a basic bitch,” Ama laments. “I can’t stand to see.” Similar to the prior single “On Your Way,” the new song finds each of the group’s shared vocal duties infused with melodic lushness. A shimmering tangle of buoyant beats, twinkling tones, and resplendent strings resound throughout the track’s spacious soundscape. Its aural beauty echoes the song’s poignant and lofty satisfaction in letting go of what’s gaudy and meaningless for something more satisfying to the heart. As Ama coos near the end of the track: “Not here for the money, I’m here for the glory / My spirits & harmony.”
