John Reis, a longtime collaborator who had been playing alongside Froberg since the mid-1980s when they were both part of the San Diego band Pitchfork, confirmed Froberg’s passing on Saturday through an Instagram post.

“Rick passed away suddenly last night from natural causes,” Reis wrote. “His art made life better. The only thing he loved more than art and rock n roll was his friends. He will forever be remembered for his creativity, vision and his ability to bring beauty into this world. I love you, Rick. I will miss you for the rest of my life.”

Born in Los Angeles and raised in Encinitas where he lived for years, Froberg was a beloved artist in both L.A. and San Diego, lauded by fellow musicians. His contributions to the evolution of the hardcore music scene can be felt across the U.S. and globe.
