illuminati hotties are back with a new song “Truck” which serves as a first look at their forthcoming fourth album. On top of new music, they are also currently on tour with plans to play The Bellwether in Los Angeles on September 27th. This is the first single they’ve shared since last year’s “Sandwich Sharer” and their 2021 album Let Me Do One More. But the project’s creator Sarah Tuzdin has been anything but inert in the interim — co-producing the boygenius debut album and the debut EP of Los Angeles singer/songwriter Eliza McLamb.

But Illuminati hotties make their return on “Truck,” a weightless and solemnly rollicking drive down the highway. One that couples her characteristically soothing vocal lilt with a jaunt of ragged guitar strums. “Like only a teamster could / you got so good at splitting,” Tuzdin lulls. “‘cause nothing beats open road / when the radio chatter’s hitting.”

Masking her existential wistfully existential words behind the wayfaring charm of life on the road, the single is another gently poignant reminder that the root of illuminati hotties’ magic is her effortlessly intimate songwriting.

“You grew up way too fast / took yr corncob act to the city,” she sings, echoing with tenderness the excruciating listlessness of a fish out of water. “thought there could be something more / turns out hollywood’s just as boring.” A tangle of guitars trail behind her breathy words, hitched in tow like the rumbling trailer of a big rig as it shudders defiantly down the road. Tuzdin appears as earnest as ever and just as gushing with the kind of poetic lyricism that has made her music so captivating and uplifting.
