Nation of Language has shared the latest preview of their hotly anticipated third album Strange Disciple with the release of “Too Much, Enough.” The trio has also expanded their lengthy fall tour dates with a stop at The Roxy in Los Angeles on October 28th — get the presale time and code below! The new single arrives as the fourth they’ve unveiled, following the simmering exaltation “Weak In Your Light” and the groovily rapt “Sole Obsession.”

“Too Much, Enough” is still steeped in the band’s buoyant and luminous synth-pop. But this time the object of their damning fascination is not a forlorn love but a television set. Wrangling with the ever-depressive rancor of the 24-hour news cycle, the song tracks the fuse of one’s anxiety as it nears implosion.

“A talk show that cannot help but hurt,” Ian Devaney laments. “Swimming in sweat / Television set.” His mournful and panicked words are kept buoyed by the shimmering flourishes of electronica and thrumming bass conjured by Aidan Noell and Alex MacKay.

“Too Much, Enough” also comes with a music video, directed by Robert Kolodny and filled to the brim with whacky cameos that’ll have you gawking at the screen. Is that Ruby Wolf as a pseudo-News Max anchor? Yes, it is. Is that Jimmi Simpson being interviewed next to a rocking horse? Oh yeah. Is that Reggie Watts as a holographic head? Indeed.

The film opens with the record’s eerie mascot “The Strange Disciple” settling onto their couch and flicking on the television set — only to be greeted by an onslaught of horrendous news that syncs itself to the song’s anxiously earnest lyrics. You’ll also want to watch for all the Nation of Language easter-eggs comprising the various headlines and banners.
