La Doña has finally released her new EP Can’t Eat Clout which arrives via Text Me Records as a fanfare of radical and tumultuous love. The Chicana Bay Area artist has also announced a tour in support of the collection which includes stops at The Echo in Los Angeles on November 6th and the Constellation Room in Santa Ana on November 7th. The four songs found on the EP follow three distinct love stories — encompassing self love, romance, and a passion for her music — all while sublimely melding together everything from cumbia and salsa to oldies and reggaeton.

Can’t Eat Clout begins with lead single “Paloma No Vuelve Amar,” a song that pairs the disheartening realities of the music industry with a sizzling melody of buoyant drums and wailing horns. It’s a song that confronts fierce anguish and disenchantment with a rallying energy fueled by its rapt instrumentals and La Doña’s blissful cries.

On the EP’s title track “Can’t Eat Clout” she challenges the oppressive capitalistic intentions that have infected the world around. Dancing around her sharp criticisms to the tune of euphoric horns and jaunty percussion as she leads an emphatic chant: “Might sell good / But you can’t eat clout.”

Then there’s the woozily swaying doo-wop-esque “Loser Girl,” which takes on the voice and melody of a swooning love song to disguise its biting reproach toward a woman who remains a persistent thorn in her side. A fierce tone switch comes with the EP’s final track “Show Me How You Livin'” (feat. Tia Nomore). Here, La Doña’s self-described “Femmeton” comes into full view as she doubles up with Morone for a few bars on the joyous and delightfully swaggering song.
