After what was arguably their most prolific year yet, indie-rock singer-songwriter Black Polish is getting ready to drop their debut album, Forest (Monsters Live In The Trees), out Jan. 26 via Riptide Music. Out of the nine tracks expected to appear, a considerable amount has already been teased. Singles “Tears Are Falling” and “willows,” while both equally introspective, offer more than just captivating melodies.

Since Black Polish released their debut single “Sophie” in late 2020 when they were 15, the now LA-based artist has only improved with time. For the most part, Jayden Nicole Binnix (aka Black Polish) stuck with dropping singles and 2021’s Out of Place EP, which contained their biggest song to date, “Baby Tonight.” Released nearly a year after “Sophie,” “Baby Tonight” set the tone for their honest and often dark interpretation of pop-punk.

Their most recent single, “willows,” is among their longest and gradually heartbreaking. Binnix themself said that “willows” “speaks of when you hope that this current person you’re obsessed with can finally pull you out of the darkness and everything that is wrong with you disappears.”

Forest (Monsters Live In The Trees), similar to other projects released in recent memory, came out of the pandemic when Binnix was still in high school. The name for the project comes from Binnix’s home in Maryland and the greenery surrounding their house, which they now remember as a symbol for their state of mind at the time.

As of now, there is yet to be a word on whether or not there are any plans on touring. Black Polish is, however, keeping it local and continuing to perform in L.A. The music artist will take to the stage at Winston House in Venice on Sunday, January 21.

most anticipated tours of 2024 concerts

In the last year, Black Polish was part of Echo Park Rising in September and they opened for Hemlocke Springs in October. Although Black Polish has around 11 or so songs under their name, the millions of streams they’ve accumulated are not far off from the numbers of previously established artists’ entire careers.

To make it all the more impressive, Black Polish has been making music since they were 13. Now at 18, Binnix continues to speak from their heart, something that’s evident by the way they spoke about their upcoming full-length debut. “With every bad day, therapy session, or panic attack, I always ended my week with writing a song,” said Binnix. “There’s hundreds of melodies I have scrapped. These are simply the ones I have kept.”
