Rey Pila “Fantasma”
Mexico City quartet Rey Pila shares a hypnotic, darkwave-soaked new single with the release of “Fantasma,” their first in a decade to feature Spanish lyricism. Launched by an exuberant impact of percussion, the track strolls betwixt bewitching guitars and synthesizers, encircling you in its heady rhythms. Like wandering through a haunting fever dream (something the accompanying visualizer animated by Mateo Arce captures startlingly well) the slow-burning single savors the intoxicating meldings of murky electro-rock that Rey Pila conjures up.

Las Nubes “Would Be”
Las Nubes — the project of Ale Campos and Emile Milgram — set out to create an unofficial theme song for a live-action Power Puff Girls series for their recent single “Would Be.” The result is a riff-dueling retrospection about missing out on one’s adolescence that grumbles and roars via its fiery output. The music video for the song directed by Alina Campos uses a home video-style clip of an elderly gentleman skillfully kicking around a soccer ball to tap into the angst and whimsy of its inspiration.
“My life’s gone by / Why isn’t anything easy anymore?” they wail in lament, guitars cutting through like streaks of lightning. “And I know the more I give, the less I’ll get back.” Whether you’re a former crime-fighting child superhero or just someone feeling overwhelmed by the colossal passage of time, this rip-roaring anthem is for you.
Tormentas Malsanas the new album from Las Nubes arrives on June 14th via Sweet Records.

N8NOFACE “When We’re Gone”
N8NOFACE keeps dropping killer EPs and his latest six-song rager When We’re Gone is no different. The collection’s title track serves as its combustible climax, flooding your ears with a cacophony of ferocious pummelings and blitzing vocals. It’s the kind of fiendish, adrenaline-pumping race that we’ve come to expect from N8NOFACE, barraging you with the hurricane force of its frantically savage sonics. And like so many of his songs, the raving, and boiling energy it unleashes are best experienced live.
See N8NOFACE when he opens for Limp Bizkit at the Toyota Pavilion in Concord on August 23rd and Glen Helen Amphitheater in San Bernardino on August 24th.
