Scrappy punk outfit FIDLAR has revealed they’re cooking up a new record, releasing the pair of lead singles “GET OFF MY WAVE” and “FIX ME” as herald. After triumphantly returning to the stage at NO VALUES in Pomona, the band is ready to ignite the fuse on their next chapter. When their fourth album SURVIVING THE DREAM, arrives this fall on September 20th, it kicks off a North American tour that includes a Halloween show at The Bellwether in Los Angeles on October 31st.
FIDLAR has returned from a long break and is tackling some existential challenges. Despite facing physical (age) and mental (lead singer Zac Carper‘s bipolar diagnosis) obstacles that have arisen from their previous unrestrained lifestyle, the band remains dedicated to providing the wild energy and frenzied angst that their fans love.
On “GET OFF MY WAVE,” they share a volatile, tongue-in-cheek obliteration of personal inhibitions. Pulverizing drums and withering guitars rumble along to the frantic sprint of Carper’s inflammatory cries: “Don’t wanna open up to anybody but me / I don’t wanna be okay.” The track’s lyric video pairs a montage of surfers getting into it with one another with his desperate shouts — “But honestly, can everybody just get off my wave?” — scorning the buzz kills trying to hijack his mood.
“FIX ME” finds FIDLAR flailing in a downward spiral that doubles as an eviscerating confession. Fueled by a thrashing cocktail of rabid rock, Carper cuts into the heart of his self-destructive tendencies and floundering attempts to cope with them. Directed by Ryan Baxley and Brandon Schwartzel, the song’s accompanying music video envisions its descent into momentous anxiety as a chaotic night with a solo karaoke singer played by Sosie Bacon. Her dire miming and pained melodrama is a visual lightning rod for the song’s frenetic energy.

“This record is about doubling down on what you love,” Carper explained. “For us, its about playing shows and making music. Coming back after a few years away, our intention was to self-make an album that the 3 of us are stoked on. We’re very very very pumped on it and what’s to come. These songs are meant to be heard live with the fellow FIDIOTS going off.”
