Our hot picks for new song releases take you around the globe with artists from the U.S., New Zealand, and Canada/Palestine. These three new songs are infectious and will likely get stuck in your head (in the best of ways). Best of all, all three talents are fully independent.

Nemahsis “Coloured Concrete”

Canadian-Palestinian singer-songwriter and social activist Nemahsis has released a stunning new single and video, “Coloured Concrete.” The cathartic new track arrives in anticipation of her debut album, Verbathim, set to release independently on September 13th on her own imprint under the same name. If you’re a fan of the dazzling vocals of Kate Bush and Florence and the Machine, which have the ability to get you through tough times and invoke a cathartic release, you will love Nemahsis’ new song. The song is a slow burner that billows with her soft-spoken yet raspy storytelling before bursting into an anthemic indie-pop rush of release. A song about self-reflection and resilience, “Coloured Concrete” is the kind of song you cry to and sing at the top of your lungs.

Watch the video for the single directed by Norman Wong and Amy Gardner and produced by Denim.

Benjamin Carter “If I Could

Benjamin Carter yet again drops another indie banger. We just featured the artist a couple of weeks ago in our three new songs round-up, and the music maker is sizzling with even more delicious indie pop. On his latest offering, “If I Could,” the track opens with a surf rock guitar intro, reminiscent of the early days of The Drums and Growlers. Before you know it, Carter’s soaring voice takes you through an anthemic arc where you cannot help but turn up the volume and sing along. The catchy single arrives with a clever visual directed by Abe Azab.

ratbag “Pinky Boy”

Auckland-based artist ratbag (aka Sophie Brown) returns with a fresh new noise pop single that is sure to make you dance across the indie club floor as though it were 2004. Blending all the greatest of the indie sleaze era, from noise-punk to electro-pop, ratbag sings about pinky boys that never keep their promises. The upbeat summer jam is for anyone who’s ever had a “shitty boyfriend.”

The song arrives with a video created by ratbag and Taylor Malmo along with some incredible artwork from the multi faceted artist.
