Originally released as a solo single from Kentucky-raised artist Cain Culto, the new version of “KFC Santería” features verses from violinist-singer Sudan Archives. Alongside the song is a limited release of “F ICE” thongs, with all net profits going towards the nonprofit East Side Cafe LA in support of communities affected by ICE raids.
While the original was already a punchy deconstruction on the corporatization of organized religion, Sudan Archives’ inclusion, as well as added lyrics from Cain, makes the song an unflinching dismantling of current events. At the same time, the track’s fusion of country sensibilities, hip-hop production, and strings remains intact, reaffirming the two’s artistry and ability to pack activism into the remix.
“KFC Santería” already had quippy lyrics such as “I’m like if a hillbilly hick / Was a big booty bitch” But on the remix, Cain doubles down, proudly shouting “Fuck Trump, fuck ICE, free Palestine,” that aligns with the song’s confrontational energy made especially potent by the intensity of the present.
Sudan Archives similarly brings the heat to a track burning with its unwavering stances, setting the tone for what’s to come at the beginning, thanks to lines like “Pussy Michael Jackson, beat it.”
