Whether through nuanced lyrics speaking to complex emotions or maximalist production that refuses to let you listen passively, there’s no doubting that the three artists below had something to say. Of course, how they got their messages across – ranging from ‘80s glam, to dark techno, and vulnerable alt R&B – proves how seemingly seamless creativity comes to them. Stream all three of these must-hear new songs.

Portraits Of Tracy “Caught In A Jam”
As part of the upcoming EP, Q: Where Do Our Primal Instincts Originate? A: MTV!, out July 24, Portraits Of Tracy is anything but “Caught In A Jam” on her new single. For an artist known to fuse genres with ease, she described the new song as “a brash love letter to bands such as Squeeze, Tom Tom Club, and Queen. Space age obsession meets the sound and the urgency of the late 70s.”
That certainly comes through with a buzzing bass, energetic drums, and a sudden halfway switch – which beautifully slows things down with layered melodies before the bouncy rhythm returns – that you can’t fake. From the start, Tracy takes things to an 11, overwhelming your ears with electronic production that gives even the most flashy glam rock a run for its money.
And if that weren’t enough, the fittingly campy music video is sure to satisfy that space age obsession she had in mind while putting together such a singular sound you can’t hear anywhere else.

Cobrah “Sign From God”
Few artists could match how avant-garde Cobrah is, but she seems to have met her match with Grimes on their newest collaboration, “Sign From God.” In the case of the Swedish artist, she’s had a busy 2026 with the release of her debut album, Torn.
Like that album, “Sign From God” is not just a sign that she continues to push the envelope when it comes to dark yet pulsating sounds that immerse you into another world. On top of production that would sound right at home for an arthouse film thanks to the cinematic buildup, the two vocalists come together like dueling snakes, twisting with each other to the point of synchrony.
As the song continues, “Sign From God” falls somewhere between gospel music, abrasive techno, and a healthy dose of pop for lyrics that add to the glossy experience. For two artists who don’t shy away from experimenting, the single comes off as second nature for both of them.

Baby Rose “Let Me Go”
With her incomparable vocals, Baby Rose is gearing up for an upcoming album, YEARNALISM, out July 10 through Secretly Canadian, with the new single, “Let Me Go.” Contrary to her album title, the gifted vocalist has plenty of lighter soundscapes to bring to the table, pairing her vintage voice with modern production that draws on indie rock and alternative soul and R&B.
Singing about how feelings come and go as time passes by, Baby Rose makes her case for why a partner should stay in her past, with lines like “If you love me, let me go” punctuating the growth she’s going through. It’s a more grounded, if still emotionally charged message for a singer whose greatest gift is her unique vocal range.
But above all else, it proves that Baby Rose is among the most reliable artists bridging between decades without having to call attention to influences, letting the emotions speak for themselves.
