West Hollywood is turning the Sunset Strip into a free, outdoor concert this November. LIVE ON SUNSET, a city-backed free outdoor show, takes over the stretch of Sunset Boulevard between Doheny Drive and San Vicente Boulevard on Saturday, Nov. 14, starting at 4 p.m. Nine-time GRAMMY winner and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Sheryl Crow headlines, with support from Local Natives, Empress Of, Grace Bowers, Doug Locke and Mia Moretti.
You guys, it’s giving Sunset Strip Music Festival vibes, but an updated version that recognizes the icons who helped build the Strip’s legacy while including contemporary bands and artists that are keeping the West Hollywood music scene alive. This takes me back to our 2014 review of the final Sunset Strip Music Festival, where our writer detailed the changing music scene.

From the Roxy and the Whisky a Go Go to the Viper Room and the Troubadour, West Hollywood’s stages have shaped decades of music history. That legacy also includes the Sunset Strip Music Festival (SSMF), which Grimy Goods covered from 2010 through its final edition in 2014. Not to mention the many shows we’ve booked and/or covered at The Roxy. So many good times! We’re thrilled to see an event similar to the SSMF back on the Strip. And with numerous new boutique hotels and rooftop restaurants on the Strip, you mind as well make a weekend out of it.
LIVE ON SUNSET is free, but you need to register for a scannable ticket. RSVP for free here.

The Lineup
Sheryl Crow returns to the same stretch of Sunset Boulevard where she played some of her earliest shows. After moving to L.A. from Kennett, Missouri, and singing backup for Michael Jackson on his Bad World Tour, she sharpened her songwriting in West Hollywood rooms like the Roxy and the Viper Room. Her 1993 debut, Tuesday Night Music Club, produced the Record of the Year winner “All I Wanna Do.”

Local Natives are a band Grimy Goods has championed since their opening-act days. We first saw them in 2009 at the El Rey Theatre, where these up-and-coming Angelenos opened for White Rabbits and stole the show from the headliner. We’ve covered them extensively ever since. The band delivered a blissfully bittersweet performance at the Hollywood Bowl in August 2024, one of the last shows with cofounder and music virtuoso Kelcey Ayer before his amicable departure from the band. At LIVE ON SUNSET, Local Natives will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Sunlit Youth, the album they launched with a free rooftop show in Silver Lake in 2016.
Empress Of is the project of Honduran-American singer, songwriter and producer Lorely Rodriguez, who grew up in the L.A. area. When we caught her at Club Bahia for Red Bull Sound Select’s 30 Days in LA, Empress Of went wild, showing off her command of high-octane beats as the whole room looked to her as their goddess. Her new album, Dream House, was written after the Altadena fires destroyed her family’s home. Catch up on all our Empress Of coverage here.
Rounding out the lineup are Grace Bowers, Doug Locke and Mia Moretti.
