Best New Songs Released in June 2025
Portugal. The Man with Lucius “Silver Spoons”
After teasing new music earlier this year with the single, “V.I.S.,” Portugal. The Man show no signs of stopping their steady supply if their surprise EP, uLu Selects Vol #2, is anything to go by. Among the four new songs is “Silver Spoons” featuring Lucius, a bouncy takedown on the privileged. As the standout off the EP, the track finds the band letting loose and shedding any preconceived notions listeners might have from hits like “Feel It Still.” Read More.
Debby Friday “Lipsync”
This week’s Best New Music goes to Debby Friday. The singer-songwriter and producer, Debby Friday, has released a fierce new electro rap banger titled “Lipsync.” With industrial techno beats over a sultry Debby Friday flow, “Lipsync” is quite the jump away from the cathartic dance pop of “1/17.” Read More.
Samara Cyn “hardheaded”
Samara Cyn is keeping the momentum going with her new EP, backroads. The rapper and singer just released her debut album, The Drive Home, last year, and now she’s back with a new offering. One of the five songs on backroads is “hardheaded,” a soothing track that’s equal parts spacey and bouncy in the best ways possible. Read More
Mikayla Geier “piano in the sky”
The track, which plays off the “pie-in-the-sky” phrase, finds Geier struggling through dating in the modern age. Unsurprisingly, the most striking aspect of “piano in the sky” is the songwriting. Geier explaining how “My friends all go ‘Just wait a bit / Just keep shopping for a shoe that fits’” is the sort of lyric that puts you into her mind, letting her situation play out like a romcom on top of pop-rocking production. La Reezy & PJ Morton “For The Mind”
“For The Mind” is another showcase for La Reezy, a 20-year-old rapper who’s been making waves and garnering co-signs left and right. Morton’s production lets La Reezy lean into conscious rap, allowing him to flow over a psychedelic beat where he reaffirms that he’s in it for provoking thought rather than chasing the dollar signs. Kumo 99 “Down”
To say things hit the fan on “Down” would be an understatement and something that’s proven wrong by the aggressive first few seconds, where the bass practically slaps you in the face. As though the vocals were a conductor’s baton, Komai’s voice guides the controlled chaos through a constant barrage of heavy drums and synths before the song takes off. Read More

ARTISTS YOU SHOULD KNOW
BEST NEW MUSIC
Terrace Martin & Kenyon Dixon “Only Real Ones Survive”
“Only Real Ones Survive” finds Dixon singing passionately about all things LA over production that bridges the gap between hip-hop and jazz. While the connection between the genres is already strong, the noticeably grungy atmosphere juxtaposed with Dixon’s vocals, otherwise befitting of an R&B song but still right at home on the song, shows how dynamic a producer Martin is. Susannah Joffe “Antler Queen”
Balancing indie-pop melodies with an underlying eerie atmosphere, Joffe sings a twisted tale that touches on love and obsession. “Antler Queen,” which evokes early Lana Del Rey in its sound and enigmatic lyrics, features lyrics that creep up on you against the seemingly romantic instrumentation.
