After a crazy day of waiting for the almighty Coachella to announce its glorious line-up, music enthusiasts across the map were left with a bitter taste on their musical palettes when the clock struck 5 p.m on Tuesday, January 18. With a big rumor floating around that KROQ would be announcing the line-up this evening, fans were greeted with a big bowl of nothing. It was actually pretty funny.

Regardless, the good people at Goldenvoice came through around 10 p.m with the official 2011 Coachella line-up poster you see below. Naturally, everyone was ecstatic until they read the fine print. This year’s Coachella line-up is indeed exciting, but it’s totally recycled. If this were some sort of a Green festival, I guess that would be a positive thing. The line up features way too many acts that have played Coachella (Black Keys, Sleigh Bells, Kanye, etc.) and a long list of bands that we constantly see in Los Angeles and many other major cities. This isn’t a bad thing for most, but for those of us that are constantly going to shows and love Coachella for its wide exposure of underground bands and iconic headliners, this year’s line-up was a bit lackluster. Where’s the fresh meat?

However, there are some exceptional underground and old school acts on the bill, but I think we all expected a lot more from the leading music festival. Especially with the headliners … Kings of Leon! WTF? I’m hoping Coachella will select some kick-ass bands as part of their late schedule additions that they announce every year.

One thing for sure though, whether you’re disappointed with the line-up or not, Coachella is always an unforgettable journey that everyone who loves living life to the fullest should experience at least once. There’s just so much more to it aside from the live performances and you have to attend to truly understand what I’m talking about.
