Coachella 2011 Line-up Announced (Official Coachella 2011 Poster)

After a crazy day of waiting for the almighty Coachella to announce its glorious line-up, music enthusiasts across the map were left with a bitter taste on their musical palettes when the clock struck 5 p.m on Tuesday, January 18. With a big rumor floating around that KROQ would be announcing the line-up this evening, fans were greeted with a big bowl of nothing. It was actually pretty funny.

Regardless, the good people at Goldenvoice came through around 10 p.m with the official 2011 Coachella line-up poster you see below. Naturally, everyone was ecstatic until they read the fine print. This year’s Coachella line-up is indeed exciting, but it’s totally recycled. If this were some sort of a Green festival, I guess that would be a positive thing. The line up features way too many acts that have played Coachella (Black Keys, Sleigh Bells, Kanye, etc.) and a long list of bands that we constantly see in Los Angeles and many other major cities. This isn’t a bad thing for most, but for those of us that are constantly going to shows and love Coachella for its wide exposure of underground bands and iconic headliners, this year’s line-up was a bit lackluster. Where’s the fresh meat?

However, there are some exceptional underground and old school acts on the bill, but I think we all expected a lot more from the leading music festival. Especially with the headliners … Kings of Leon! WTF? I’m hoping Coachella will select some kick-ass bands as part of their late schedule additions that they announce every year.

One thing for sure though, whether you’re disappointed with the line-up or not, Coachella is always an unforgettable journey that everyone who loves living life to the fullest should experience at least once. There’s just so much more to it aside from the live performances and you have to attend to truly understand what I’m talking about.

i’m still torn. at first glance i was underwhelmed. i waited a day to react and then i felt just like ronnie does (i know it’ll be fun but the bands don’t pull the $300 out of me). sandy i think you nail it, though. over the years i’ve noticed that the draw of the headliners has waned for me and i was going for more of the smaller bands. this year the smaller bands aren’t even doing it for me. my music snob also says not worth my time, but i know i’ll still enjoy myself if i go.

Lineup completely disappoints in my eyes. The $300 price tag might be the reason to skip this year. Coachella is an awesome party, but the music this year just doesn’t cut it. It’s becoming too Indie for it’s own good.

You all made valid points and I’m with ya, but I think most of us avid show-goers need to take in consideration that we’re always going to shows and if you’re like me, you’ve been doing it since your were in high school. As we grow older, I think our tastes have also become more broad and off the beaten path. All the bands on the line-up are GREAT with many of them being my faves, but the music snob in me wanted something fresh. Oh well. Gonna be a blast either way.

I’m so surprised that even the smaller acts are bands we all have seen numerous times. Although I dearly love many of them this lineup looks like last year’s Spaceland Productions calendar. I think I’ll be using my saved Coachella dollars this year for SXSW.

I’ve seen so many of these bands! Coachella and Goldenvoice played it safe this year. Not cool. But I too will probably still go. It’s one he’ll of a party in the VIP area!
