Saturday evening, New Zealand pop princess Lorde brought in the biggest crowd of Coachella weekend two to that point at the Outdoor Theatre.
Lorde has come a long ways as a performer since just a year ago and delivered the goods to what seemed like 50,000 people or more.
Lorde played through most of her Pure Heroine album, showcasing her wide variety of odd movements as she danced through each song. “Royals” and “Team” set the house on fire and though she doesn’t move the needle much in terms of charisma or presentation, that she’s a teenager writing and performing songs of that level in front of that big of a crowd without any worries was awesome to see and speaks well to her future success.
It was enjoyable to see the 17-year old take in her first Coachella just the same as though she was just another girl rather than a chart-topping teen. “I’ll never forget my first Coachella!” Lorde screamed near the end of her set. Neither will anyone who took in her set on Saturday night, that we’re sure of.
