Last night at the Wiltern, Kendrick Lamar performed to a raucous sold-out crowd packed to the walls. With the room lit in red and the stage clearly noting “pimps only”, Lamar kicked off what would be a most powerful performance.
The Compton-raised hip hop star is currently on tour in support of his incredible new album To Pimp a Butterfly. With a long and intense intro, Lamar was unable to start right away thanks to the uproar from the crowd. The crowd was showering Lamar in hoots and applause. It was nice to see just how excited fans were for this very special performance.
Accompanied by a live band dropping heavy beats, Lamar’s lyricism and presence could be felt strongly. He mentioned it’s been a while since he performed in an intimate venue. Last night, the 1,850 capacity Wiltern got to experience every bit of Lamar’s slick presence. Hands down, ace performance. We hope these intimate “Kunta Groove Sessions” become an annual thing.
For an even more intimate performance, don’t miss Kendrick Lamar tonight at The Observatory in Santa Ana!
