The iconic Jewels Catch One played host to a secret Raconteurs show Thursday night in gritty mid-city Los Angeles. The band composed of Jack White, Brendan Benson, Jack Lawrence (The Dead Weather, The Greenhornes), and Patrick Keeler (The Afghan Whigs, The Greenhornes) were in LA as part of their string of small club “secret” shows. Slammin’ out the goods in support of their new album Help Us Stranger, the band ripped, roared and serenaded us to fuzzy euphoria.

It was a fucking badass shows to say the least.

With tickets sold for $60 a pop, cash money, old-school style, at the door — 100% of the proceeds went to the @gsanetwork. GSA Network unites trans and queer youth of color for racial and gender justice, empowering them to take action and build communities.

Raconteurs could not have selected a more perfect Los Angeles venue to pop their music into; Jewels Catch One is quite the historic, famed venue in the LGBTQ community.

Opening its doors in 1973, Jewels Catch One was one of the first black discos in the U.S., and it reigned as the top black gay bar in Los Angeles for quite some time. The venue was the perfect spot for the Raconteurs to shell out their glorious bombast in LA while raising funds for a such an amazing organziation.

Pleasuring fans with songs from their new album Help Us Stranger, as well as some Raconteurs hits, the band smashed out a bevy of rock ‘n’ roll. New songs like “Now That You’re Gone” sung by Benson — had fans pining over its twangy serenade while the high energy “Hey Gyp (Dig The Slowness)” had us thrashing about doing our best air guitar. The entire band raised some epic hell with this fun song.

But you know which Raconteurs track really had us going nuts? No, it wasn’t “Steady, As She Goes” — although hearing the hit live was truly a damn good time. “Salute Your Solution” off Raconteurs’ 2008 album, Consolers of the Lonely, had the entire room fired up. This track has always shredded, but it is pure insanity live. Just about everyone in the small club were bangin’ their heads or jumping about to the Raconteurs’ vicious guitar and drum slaying while others tried to keep up with White’s manic vocals.

The shit was good. SO. GOOD.

If you weren’t one of the few 300 people at Jewels Catch One, catching the Raconteurs secret Los Angeles gig, don’t worry! The band are back on July 26 with a headline gig at the Greek Theater LA. While you won’t get the intimacy we all did at Catch One, you’re still going to have an amazing experience.
