Alison Mosshart, the fervent rockstar and one-half of The Kills has shared her solo debut with the music video for “Rise,” an enigmatic and uplifting anthem that is all hot fire and drudged-up passion. The film, shot in a home-video style, features Mosshart howling into the camera, spliced between shots of hot-rods and hydraulic gifted cars cruising down the crowded streets of Los Angeles. A slow-burner that explodes at its climax like any record with Mosshart on it, “Rise” exists in the bluesy, bass-beating rock that was so infectious in The Kills – but it’s clear that with Mosshart solo at the helm, we’re in for quite the ride.
Mosshart herself is holed up in Nashville teaching herself video editing, the product of which can be seen in the video for “Rise,” which showcases a recent trip she took to Los Ángeles.
“I didn’t ever forget it,” Mosshart says of initially beginning to write the song in 2913. “I remember right where I was when I wrote it, sitting at my desk in London, missing someone badly.”
