Mark your calendars because Common is making an appearance at the classic Starlight Bowl in Burbank on July 9th for a unique one-night performance. The iconic rapper will be joined on stage by fellow artist Double G and his 50-piece Stardust Symphony, as well as openers Lettuce, Nikka Costa, and KCRW DJ Novena Carmel. It’s the kind of performance made for a gorgeous amphitheater like the Starlight Bowl and with such a stacked lineup it’s not one to miss! Doors are at 3pm, showtime kicks off at 5pm. Tickets to Common at the Starlight Bowl go on sale this Friday, April 15!
Ever the prolific creator Common just released his massive double album A Beautiful Revolution Pt. 1 & 2 only last year and before that debuted a video album for the first part of the record. Prior to that, Common unveiled his 2019 album Let Love which featured artists like Daniel Caesar and Leon Bridges. Common might’ve always been a socially conscious rapper but in the last decade, his catalog has increasingly become emblematic of the strife he sees in the world, with albums like Black America Again and Nobody’s Smiling getting at the root of issues such as race and gun violence.
It’ll be especially interesting to see Common working his songs into the Double G-led symphony that will be performing alongside him. It’s becoming a growing trend for every kind of artist to perform with a symphony and to be honest, we can’t get enough of it. Boston funk band Lettuce will be hitting the stage before Common and you won’t want to miss these ’90s icons. Get a jump start on the show and go listen to their most recent album Unify which was just released this year! Longtime singer and Los Angeles icon Nikka Costa and her elegant mix of R&B and soul will also be making an appearance as an opener.
Common’s show is presented by JABM in partnership with KCRW and if you’re not yet familiar with the promoters you will be soon. It’s definitely worth your time to head over to JABM to check out the other shows they have coming through. Right now JABM have a hold on two spectacular venues: the Starlight Bowl in Burbank and The Amp at Craig Ranch in Las Vegas, another stunning amphitheater. Their remaining shows are at The Amp, but with names like Phoebe Bridgers, Lord Huron, and Ben Harper it’d be worth the drive! And with summer concerts underway, we are more than likely to see more shows pop up at the historic Starlight Bowl. Stay tuned to JABM’s Insta for all the latest updates, and subscribe to their newsletter fore more concert announcements.
