Unconventional bassist Les Claypool brings his eclectic and sharp bass playing to Los Angeles with a performance at The Ford on July 29. His upcoming show is a part of his Bastard Jazz tour that sees him tinkering with the style of jazz, approaching the music genre from an angle you’d least expect. With nine tour dates up ahead, Claypool will be performing mostly in California with seven tour dates spanning across the coast including sold out dates for July 25-26 in Oakland at Yoshi’s and a stop at Pappy & Harriet’s on July 30 in the desert of Pioneertown. See a full list of tour dates below.
For his Bastard Jazz tour, Claypool brings along with him funk virtuoso drummer Stanton Moore of Galactic, as well as longtime collaborators Mike Dillon and Skerik. Known for being the founding member, lead singer, bassist and primary songwriter of the funk metal band Primus, Claypool is no stranger to using his talents to fuse together genres in explosive ways. A venture into jazz is sure to produce even more wild and out there sounds emblematic of Claypool’s immense musical talent. Patrons can expect improvisations, reworked Primus songs and more.
After concluding his Bastard Jazz tour, Claypool is set to play four Colorado shows with Primus. In addition to his solo work and Primus, Claypool is also one half of the duo, The Claypool Lennon Delirium, a project with John Lennon’s son Sean Lennon, under which he released his most recent full-length album under. With Primus, Claypool released the visceral and charged three-song EP, Conspiranoid, earlier this year. Whether on his own, with a band or in a duo, Claypool’s liquid hot playing and constantly shifting sound leads the way for an interesting sonic experience.
