Los Angeles Julie are back with a double release of two singles “pg.4 a picture of three hedges/through your window” which come in the aftermath of the band’s debut EP Pushing Daises. The new songs continue the enigmatic outfit’s penchant for mixing off-kilter rock, grunge, and shoegaze into seriously intoxicating sonics. Whether it’s on the grinding riffs and pummeling percussion of “pg.4 a picture of three hedges” or encased in the frantic hurricane-clamor of “through the window.”

Comprised of bassist/vocalist Alex Brady, guitarist/vocalist Keyan Zand, and drummer Dillon Lee, the trio in Julie have quickly become a fixation of shoegaze revival. Their precise distortions and comiserate wailings are both a transfixing catharsis as they are obsessively captivating. On “pg.4 a picture of three hedges” it takes the form of droning vocals and rapid drum explosions. While the heartache and dull anger of “through your window” slowly builds until it finds combustive release in the track’s fiery finale.

Just last year Julie dropped its debut EP Pushing Daises, an introduction to the band’s blistering and frantic sensibilities as musicians. But since then the trio has revealed itself to be more than just music makers: not only do the trio share songwriting duties, their artwork and visuals are a testament to their coalesced aesthetic around the band. All of which is to say that the full sensory experience of Julie is unique to the band — making their upcoming run of live shows a must-see if you can make a trip to a venue near you.
