Jarina De Marco Revels In Her "Masa" On New Single

Dominican-Brazilian artist Jarina De Marco has shared a new single in the form of “Masa” (feat. Calacote, mediopicky), as well as announcing the imminent arrival of her debut album Caribbean All Inclusive Luxury on September 1st. It’s also the latest in a number of collaborations that she has been a part of in recent years, from “Vacío” (feat. Empress Of) and “Paré de Sufrir” (feat. Esty) to her more recent appearance on the AG track “No Es El Fin.”

The features on “Masa” reflect De Marco’s desire to use her music to also uplift and give voice to other Dominican artists. Both Calacote and mediopicky also represent a multi-genre intersection that brings together dembow, bachata, merengue, cumbia, and other Latin styles with a globe-trotting variety of influences. So it makes sense that she would tap them for a track that takes uses Caribbean elements like reggaeton and softens them. Its rhythmic percussion still punctuates every beat but is made lighter against the swirling and subduing vocals of De Marco.

At its core, the song is a passionate and empowering presentation of one’s body, using “Masa” as a heartwarming and sultry metaphor for our skin. The song reveals the physically affectionate attention we all crave. In the same way one might knead dough, people also need to be touched. Yet the track also speaks to the rich fullness with which De Marco views her body and the bodies of others: as something to be celebrated and nurtured.

“Masa” also comes with a visually radiant music video that sees De Marco donning a variety of opulent outfits. In one superb scene, she is wearing a silky red robe, her hair up in a towel, and sitting at a table covered by a resplendent spread of food. In another, she is posing in a decadent dress and white wig holding an equally fashionable pup. The music video envisions the sumptuousness of her song and its alluring urge to savor all that brings one’s body pleasure.
