With the release of Goth Babe’s latest new song “Bioluminescence” comes the announcement that his debut album Lola will arrive sometime this fall. Most likely around the same time his current North American headlining tour dates close in September. His latest single follows the previously released “Alone in the Mountains,” which previewed his budding tendency to fill the sonic soundscapes of his ever-earnest songs with lush electronics.

After eight years of countless singles and three globe-trotting EPs, “Bioluminescence” reveals a new side of Goth Babe’s evolution. One that meshes beautifully with the intoxicating bittersweetness of wanderlust that emanates from his music. Guided by the light of his luminous vocals and urged forward by its thrumming rhythm, the song implores you to give in to this desire to roam with the ones you love.
“We swim through the sea on a lucid night,” his voice echoing slowly through the swell of resplendent synths. “And make our way through the island’s tides.” Like so many of Goth Babe’s songs, his latest single takes the listener on a dive into a dreamy memory, recalling a night of swimming amidst the otherworldly glow of bioluminescent ocean waters.
Against the surreal and sublime backdrop of such an experience comes the song’s equally alluringly elusive melody. A gloaming surge of scintillating synthesizers starts to appear out of the murky nothingness, illuminating and buoying Goth Babe’s wonder alongside terrifically oscillating bass. It’s the kind of track you slip into on long ruminating drives to nowhere, one devoted to the moments of quiet awe that both take your breath away and fill you with incredible life.
